How to get Tickets to Go Up the Washington Monument

There are two choices.  You can try to book online well in advance through the National Park Service contractor.  There is a $1.50 fee for this service.   The National Park Service also offers same-day, timed tickets on a first-come first serve basis.  These tickets are distributed for free from a ticket window behind the Washington Monument Lodge, a small white stone building on 15th Street in front of the Washington Monument.  The ticket window opens at 8:30 AM, but by that time a long line has already formed.  Realistically, plan to be there at 7:00 AM.  When it is your turn to get a ticket, you will be able to choose from the remaining time slots available.  Each person can get up to 6 tickets.  Children over 2 years old require a ticket.  Once the ticket window opens, the tickets are distributed quite quickly.
