I purchased a three-hour morning ride for my 78-year old mother and me. I thought this was a great activity to distance us from others during Covid-19 (no cramming on... read more tour buses) and for a somewhat disabled walker. We hit gold with Robert. In fact, we hired him for another 1.5 hour evening ride because he was so fabulous.
Robert was very prompt - he was about 15 minutes early for both pickups. He was highly flexible and came outside his normal area to get us at our hotel for the first pickup (wharf). At the start of the tour, he offered a clean, warm blanket if we were chilly and discussed whether we wanted the umbrella on the pedicab folded up or out. Throughout the tour, he was personable, professional, conversational, and full of great DC monument/building stories and trivia. But most importantly, he was a comfortable and peaceful person which was contagious for my mom and me on what could have been a stressful day (she was in DC for a medical appointment). He put us at ease and we escaped stress during our time with him, comfortably and quietly strolling along the beauty of the basin. Robert suggested an early tour to beat crowds. He suggested 8am, we went with 9am. If I did it over I would go earlier as it did start getting busier towards the noon hour. And mornings on the basin are just fabulous.
Our tour took us by a number of buildings, Congress, and all the monuments. Our night tour took us back to the pools and monuments, and added the White House, but a bit quicker since we had already stopped and talked about each in the morning. Robert was very flexible with how much time we spent at each place and encouraged me to leave my mom with him, safely, while I ventured to the top of the Lincoln at night.
The pedicab is comfortable for two unless you are tiny people. Robert is smaller but so strong - he pulled us around and had energy left. We are not small women. He was masked the entire time and we felt very safe in all manners. Communication setting up the tour was excellent and he was highly flexible with the tentativeness of our night tour. Payment was easy as he takes cash, Venmo, PayPal, and I think credit cards. The tour was significantly higher than a bus tour but the personalization, quietness, un-rushed experience, and relaxation of the stroll was 100% worth it. I tipped him 20% and felt he earned every bit of it.
Robert owns his pedicab and is a sole proprietor. I would highly recommend him. He has an embassy row tour that we will do next time we are in town. The experience was so fabulous, I’d do it again.

I wish the circumstances were different. I did extensive research and found some amazing favorable reviews for Nonpartisan Pedicab as the best for handicap and mobility issued folks to get around DC for great tours. I made the reservation with Robert a month before the scheduled trip. I made sure to let him know that we were “customers of size” and the driver would need to be comfortable hauling 2 persons with a combined weight of 600lbs plus 1 walker. He stated that would be no issue but would make note of it so the driver was aware. All aspects of the reservation and confirmation process were amazing. Robert was super communicative and very well informed.
We arrived at Federal Triangle metro station 30 mins prior to our agreed upon time for a twilight tour. Driver Bob came on time. As my 70 year old mobility challenged overweight mom was about to get on the pedicab, Bob immediately stated that this would not work. The weight was too much for him.
I called Robert and informed him and he stated that had never happened before but he’d try and find another driver. The closest driver who would be comfortable with the weight was 40 mins away. It was 55° with 8MPH winds and my 70 year old mother was not comfortable waiting for that long.
We got back on the metro line to head back to Arlington. As soon as we got on the line and was at the next stop, Robert called back saying someone was 5 minutes away. At that point my mother was too disappointed, on the subway, and just ready to get out of the cold.
I’m not sure what else we could have done differently. I was open about the weight, expressed the concern about being overweight and mobility challenged and Robert was confident and the reviews were fantastic. Looks like Bob just wasn’t feeling it. Thank goodness I didn’t pay anything upfront or provide card information.
The unfortunate thing is it was my 70 year old mothers first and only trip to DC and we were only here for 24 hours. The last part of our trip was this twilight pedicab tour. I wish Bob would have been vocal about not being comfortable about the weight and drive well during the day or even when I confirmed the trip 6 hours before that way I could have made other arrangements for a tour.

June 1, 2021originalbraveI never write reviews. Literally never. However, after our experience last night, I am compelled to do so.
I brought my very two enthusiastic and precocious daughters (ages 5.5... read more and 7) for their very first visit DC. I lived here for 6 years about 10 or so years ago and recalled that the first time I ever saw the monuments at night was pretty magical. Wanting to give my daughters that same perspective, I searched for a private night tour that wasn’t in a car but also wasn’t on foot (they’d be too tired that late past their normal bedtime) or a Segway (just not a great plan for a 5.5 and 7 year old), would keep them engaged, be age appropriate, and allow us to freedom to stay out longer or wrap up earlier based on how tired they were feeling. Not an easy thing to find.
I found Nonpartisan Pedicab and filled out the form online. Within minutes (literally) Robert wrote me back. We ended up texting and I told him exactly what I was looking for. He said “I know just the right guide for you!” And immediately put me in touch with Barry. I even had to rebook the tour for another day last minute and both Robert and Barry were so cool and accommodating.
From the minute we met up with Barry, he had my girls attention. He was engaging, hilarious, ridiculously smart and knowledgeable, accommodating, super kind and thoughtful (brought each of my kids a little gift! Seriously.)
He took us to see the usual gamut of monuments but punctuated those with unique stories and obscure facts. He also took us to the off the beaten path monuments that even I had never heard of after living here for 6 years.
Oh, and, he did all of that while PULLING A PEDICAB with the girls and me. He even made sure the girls were warm enough (he had a blanket and offered up his own jacket) and had water. AND he took all these candid photos of the girls and me all night long and offered to send me a link. How insanely thoughtful is that?
We were with him from 730pm until about 1030pm and let me just say that not once did my kids say they were bored or tired, not once did they complain, and not once did they get grumpy.
I’ve been on countless tours in countless citiessome have been just meh and some have been beyond incredibleso when I tell you that Barry was the BEST TOUR GUIDE I’ve had the privilege of meeting, you can be assured that I’ve got some pretty damn high tour guide standards.
Just book with Barry. Or listen to Robert’s recommendation. Seriously. They’re so awesome. My kids haven’t stopped talking about Barry all day.
Thank you guys! We could not possibly have loved this experience more. You made this really special for my girls and for me. Can’t wait for our next tour with you.

I never write reviews. Seriously.) He took us to see the usual gamut of monuments but punctuated those with unique stories and obscure facts.

I admit i contacted other companies but Robert was the most responsive. He was very personable even by email. I was reluctant to take a night tour but that’s what worked with our schedule. So glad we did it was gorgeous! Robert picked us up from The Hamilton restaurant. We got two pedicabs for the 5 of us and Barry was also friendly. They worked so hard and I did not realize how stinking hot it is in DC even with the sun setting. There is no way we could have managed walking around. Teenage kids a cranky grandma—was not happening. Robert was such a hit. I didn’t realize he spoke spanish or chinese btw!! When my mom couldn’t walk up the Lincoln memorial he sat with her and asked her questions about herself to keep her busy so the kids, my hubby and I could roam about freely. Priceless!! I really could go on and on. I also noticed that the people on the trolley tours looked at us and waved at us often like we were the attraction! lol The kids on the bus sometimes gave us the saddest looks as they whizzed past us and the sights like they wish they were us.
