MLK Memorial Opening Hours

MLK Memorial Opening Hours

MLK Memorial Opening Hours

The MLK Memorial is open to the public every day of the year, 24 hours a day.  In this sense, the MLK Memorial opening hours are the same as at those of every other memorial.

Fees at the MLK Memorial

Entrance to the MLK Memorial is always free.

Restrooms at the MLK Memorial

There are restrooms attached to the visitors center nearby just across West Basin Drive.  These are among the cleanest restrooms on the National Mall.  There is also a functioning water fountain just outside.

Food Availability at the MLK Memorial

There are no food kiosks near the MLK Memorial.  The nearest food stand is up Independence Avenue near the Lincoln Memorial.

Handicapped Facilities at the MLK Memorial

On West Basin Drive there are several handicapped parking spaces.  You do not need to climb any steps to get access to the MLK Memorial.  The visitors center on West Basin Drive has wheelchairs available for free use on a first-come, first-serve basis.

National Park Service Rangers Walking Tours

Rangers are on duty to answer questions from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 P.M. daily and to provide interpretive programs every hour on the hour from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m.

Tours to the MLK Memorial

One of the best ways to see the Jefferson Memorial is to visit it as part of a tour of the monuments.  Nonpartisan Pedicab offers tours that take approximately 2-3 hours.  Many guests say that this is the highlight of their trip to Washington DC.

Parking at the MLK Memorial

Unless you have handicapped stickers, you have to park at some distance.  There is a metered parking lot about a half mile away on the shore of the Tidal Basin.  There is also some on-street metered parking available on Ohio Drive by the Potomac River.

On-street parking on the National Mall is no longer free of charge.  Three hour parking is available at $2 per hour.  Parking meters only accept credit cards.
