WWII Memorial Opening Hours

WWII Memorial Opening Hours

The WWII Memorial is open 24 hours a day every day of the year except on July 4th, when the area around the Memorial is used as a staging ground for fireworks displays.  Generally, the WWII Memorial opening hours are the same as at those of every other memorial.

There is no food available at the WWII Memorial.  There are some hot dog food trucks down 17th Street across Constitution Avenue.  The nearest restaurants are several blocks further up 17th Street at G Street.  If you are hankering for National Park food, there is a food kiosk at the Lincoln Memorial.  There is a cafeteria inside the American History Museum and another at the Holocaust Museum.

Handicapped Facilities at the WWII Memorial

There  are no steps to climb at all.  On Home Front Drive, just outside the Memorial, there is a National Park Service information kiosk where they will lend you a wheelchair to tour the Memorial.  Home Front Drive also has a few convenient handicapped parking spaces.

National Park Service Rangers Walking Tours

Rangers are on duty to answer questions from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. daily and to provide interpretive programs every hour on the hour from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 p.m.

Tours to the WWII Memorial

One of the best ways to see the WWII Memorial is to visit it as part of a tour of the monuments.  Nonpartisan Pedicab offers tours that take approximately 2-3 hours.  Many guests say that this is the highlight of their trip to Washington DC.

Parking at the WWII Memorial

Handicapped parking is available right on Home Front Drive, very close to the WWII Memorial.  For all other cars, park at the Tidal Basin Parking lot across Independence Avenue.  There are usually available spaces there.  During the Cherry Blossom Festival, no parking is permitted at the Tidal Basin Parking area.  You will have to park further away.

On-street parking on the National Mall is no longer free of charge.  Three hour parking is available at $2 per hour.  Parking meters only accept credit cards.
