Visit the top of the Washington Monument to get the best views in DC. If you like to plan way in advance, you can get tickets online for $1.50. Otherwise,show up early in the morning at the Washington Monument Lodge -the white stone building on 15th Street in front of the Washington Monument. Free tickets are given out promptly at 8:30 AM that are timed for an entry later on the same day. In general, you should be there before 7:30 AM if you want to make sure you get a ticket. A line starts to form as early as 6:00 AM.  Show up by 6:30, and you will surely have a choice of available times. The opening hours of the Washington Monument vary according to the season. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, the Washington Monument is open from 9:00 AM – 10:00 PM.  During other times of the year, it is open from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  Once you are up there, spend as much time as you like.  There are large windows looking out in all four directions with expansive views around Washington, and out to Virginia.
